With the installation of the latest EFI™ Pro 30h hybrid flatbed/roll-fed LED printer, in cooperation with the company N.C.R. from Ljubljana, Zlatecan Printing House has strengthened its position in the production of short-run packaging, the advertising industry, and creative UV printing.
Zlatecan Printing House began as a classic family business back in 1983. At that time, operations were based exclusively on offset printing, while the second generation, educated at graphic arts schools in Zagreb and Ljubljana, was already preparing to enter the business.
A turning point came in 2005 when the family moved production to a new location and made a key decision: to shift toward digital technologies. The change was profound, rapid, and strategically bold—and it proved decisive.
Digital technologies opened up a completely new spectrum of possibilities: faster delivery, flexible print runs, variable content, and professional production that can compete with large systems even in small series.
The company N.C.R. Ljubljana accompanied their growth through all these phases. We spoke about the new investment with Mr. Bozidar Zlatecan, owner of Zlatecan Printing House.
Why EFI and Why Now?
“The packaging market is changing. Trends in the food, beverage, and cosmetics sectors show constant growth in the packaging segment over the next decade. In the past, everything was packed in cellophane. Today, small producers understand the importance of a good box. Slovenia may not be a large market, but it has thousands of small brands. Everyone wants a quality box, in runs of just a few hundred pieces. Without a powerful UV printer, this cannot be done quickly and with high quality.”
“The first investment that opened the door to packaging production was the Summa F1612. We already had a smaller UV printer, to which we added Summa as a finishing solution. We soon realized that the printer had become the bottleneck. This was followed by the investment in the new EFI™ Pro 30h hybrid flatbed/roll-fed LED printer. And now we again have a bottleneck in finishing, so a larger Summa F3230 will soon arrive, simply a logical step forward that will help us utilize the full power of the EFI printer,” Bozidar adds.
The new Summa F3230 is dimensionally aligned with the existing EFI system. The new workflow they are building is expected to bring significantly higher productivity, stability, and creative freedom.

This is a tool that covers all our key needs. I must also point out that integration into our workflow was very simple and fast.”
