The industry as a whole – including the graphic arts – is going through one of the greatest transformations in its history. We are standing on the threshold of a new era – Industry 5.0, or rather, Print 5.0. While many companies are still catching up with the innovations of Industry 4.0, the concept of Industry 5.0 is gaining increasing popularity.
What is Industry 5.0?
Although they share many core concepts and utilize a range of the same technologies, Industry 4.0 and 5.0 differ in essence. Industry 4.0 focuses on optimizing business production and efficiency through systems of automated Internet of Things (IoT) that operate independently.
Industry 5.0, on the other hand, places humans back at the center of the business process, revaluing the human element by enabling AI, industrial robots, and business IoT systems to assist people in making better decisions and performing advanced tasks with intention. AI takes over repetitive and tedious tasks, allowing employees to focus on more creative and innovative activities.
In this context, Industry 5.0 – or Print 5.0 – represents the next phase in the evolution of the printing industry, characterized by the integration of:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) – using AI for data analysis, print personalization, and predictive maintenance
- Automation – deploying robots and automated systems to optimize production processes
- Internet of Things (IoT) – connecting machines and devices via the internet for real-time monitoring and production optimization
- Cloud Technology – storing data and applications in the cloud for greater flexibility and accessibility
- Personalization – adapting printed products to meet individual client needs
