We were guests at the installation of two new Mutoh XpertJet 1682SR large format printers installed by Tepede service technicians at the Ars Kopija printing house in Zagreb. On this occasion, we spoke with Mr. Branimir Kolar, owner of the printing house.
This is the first European installation of an Mutoh XpertJet 1682SR eight-color printer. How did you decide on this technology?
Technology needs to be renewed every three years. If you don’t follow the technology, you get out of the game very quickly. In recent years, we have had investments in UV printers, CNC cutters, solvent printers. So, the time for eco-solvent printers that we use for finer applications, came now.
By purchasing two new Mutoh XpertJet 1682SR printers, we are not expecting new customers or new markets, but bringing a higher level of quality to our old customers. Namely, these are the first printers in Europe with a color configuration of CMYK, Lc, Lm and two additional colors, light black and orange. These are the colors with which we will achieve better results in printing b/w photos or get bright tones in the red and orange spectrum.
In addition to the wider gamut, these eco-solvent inks have been ecologically raised to a higher level and are Green Guard certified for safe use in hospitals or kindergartens.
Can you compare the older Mutoh printers you replaced with the new Mutoh XpertJet 1628SR printers?
The new printers are technically significantly tweaked. The interface is even more operator-friendly. Maintenance is minimal, what used to be done daily is now done weekly. The number of services has been reduced, the lifespan of printheads has been extended. The paint is better formulated, dries faster on the medium. The cost of production itself has been reduced and significantly accelerated. We also do a lot of work for partner psp’s who are very aware of the quality and correctness of colors. Much of our work also goes to museums where the gamut is very important for a correct print.
We treat technologies carefully and do not have frequent needs for interventions. When we have one, there are Tepede service technicians, they eliminate our problems in a very short time.
