When you receive information that there is a printing house in Zagreb that in the period from 2000 to 2023 printed and bound more than 2,500 different book titles for Croatian and foreign publishers, which is more than a million books, that it published in its own publishing house 247 book titles and that in two years on one digital machine, Ricoh Pro C7200E, they made more than 8 million imprints, what else but to visit them. All this was achieved by the Studio Moderna printing house. How, the owner, Mr. Veseljko Stojak told us.
To what extent are quality printers responsible for success?
The “holy trinity” of production is: price + deadline + quality – along with a few other elements that are a bit more difficult to assess economically, such as, for example, customer relations and service.
From the beginning, we developed both printing and binding as equal segments of our small production. In binding, a lot of work on smaller editions is still done by hand. So, the quality of people is of crucial importance, and our bookbinding team consists of top experts. In bookbinding, machines are very important, but human work can replace them and even surpass them in terms of quality.
This is not possible in print. If you don’t have a good inprint, no human intervention can make it better.
We have been gathering experience in printing for a long time, and in 2020 we completely switched to digital printing and modernized production. Today we have three top-of-the-line digital production Ricoh devices. Two Ricoh Pro C7200E machines for color and one Ricoh Pro 8100 for black and white printing.
The reason for this conversation is the investment in a second Ricoh Pro C7200E production printer, only two years after the installation of the first one. Why Ricoh?
After a rather rich and I would say “lively” experience with digital machines from another manufacturer, at the beginning of 2020 I printed the cover of a book at a colleague’s, which our machines at the time were not able to print well enough. He already had a well-established Ricoh Pro 7200X machine and offered to do the job for us. Although I was quite skeptical at first, the cover was very demanding, dark, with strong colors and contrasts. But when I saw the superb print that his Ricoh produced, and even more so when we successfully plasticized that cover and bound the books without the plastic separating even a millimeter from the cover, I was literally delighted.
It didn’t take long for me to make contact with Eurocop, an authorized Ricoh distributor. With a little luck and a lot of correctness, the first Ricoh Pro C7200E was with us in September 2020. At the end of 2020, we also bought a black and white Ricoh Pro 8100.
After we made more than 8 million inprints on the first Ricoh Pro C7200E in two years, it turned out that we need to expand the capacity as soon as possible, ensure redundancy in color printing. At the end of 2022, we bought another Ricoh Pro C7200E.
With three Ricohs, we can say that we have a literally top-quality print, which, along with our traditionally excellent binding, significantly strengthens our position on the market and ranks us among “serious” print service provider.
All Ricoh machines were delivered and installed by Eurocop. How are you satisfied you are with the cooperation and after sales support?
To us, Eurocop is much more than a reliable supplier and service provider. They have, in the true sense of the word, become a strategic business partner of our printing house. The level of service they provide us, from the reliability and quality of service, to the delivery of consumables, all the way to consulting and any kind of business support – everything is at the top level. Let’s put it this way: cooperation with them gives us a feeling of maximum security.
